Travels to Albania

May is a busy travel month for me. I work in a holiday seasonal environment. When you work for 5 or 6 days a week there are no long weekends or other days off. 5 months in winter and 4 months of summer so May is when I visit the world. I have just come back from another week of travels. This time Albania. A quick visit to the South. My favourite chill place. I am not even back for a week and then I go again to Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan for 2 weeks with one of my sons.. That is the long awaited exciting holiday. I will read and look at as many of your posts that I can before I go again so please excuse my absence.. 😉

The beach area of Himare in southern Albania

An early morning flight taking off from Tirana in Albania. The country is 75% mountainous.. For those of you who are self proclaimed historians. King Leka 1 was a King in Exile in South Africa for many years. His son Leka 2 was born in South Africa. His maternity ward when he was born in 1982 was declared temporarily Albanian soil. He was schooled at St Peter’s College in Johannesburg and then went to Sandhurst Military academy. He now lives in Tirana.

  1. Interesting bit of Albanian history that I wasn’t aware of. A connection between SA and Albania. Are they countries still close, diplomatically?

Not at all.. The old King of ALbania and the old SA government had a same hatred of communism.. On both sides today there would not be much in common.. 😉

  2. How cool!! I hope to read what your travels are like when you’re more permanently grounded. 🙂
