The Republic of ARtsakh or the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic is disputed land. 90% Armenian people live there but at end of Russian Empire it was disputed between Armenia and Azerbaijan. When it was under the USSR it was largely shelved until the fall of the USSR and in 1991 it came under dispute once again. It is known world wide as Azerbaijan territory but is governed independently, has a flag that is nearly the same as Armenia and uses Armenian monetary system. A war broke out between 1991 and 1994 against Azerbaijan and Armenians from all over the world flew in to protect the area from the Azerbaijanis.

The monastery of Gandzasar is a 10 to 13 century monastery Armenian monastery in the Madakert district of Artsakh

We took the world’s longest double cable car called wings of Tatev from Tatev to Halidzor to see an amazing monastery on the drive back to Yerevan from Stepanakert the capital of Artsakh

Looks amazing.
It was a lovely side trip..
What marvellous fun. Aerial view.
It was an amazing ride
What a scary ride! Were some of the photos taken from the cable car?
None that I posted but did have a beautiful eagle flying near us on the thermals for a while..
Lisa, I’m not sure I could do that cable car ride. But the monastery looks worth trying.
hahaha some people did stay behind at the coffee shop.. The road up takes a couple of hours..
Don’t we live in an amazing world? 🙂 🙂 And why the hell do we have to fight over it?
I agree.. I suppose people like to belong and the world just puts boarders where ever without thinking.. greed for land sometimes.. 😉
Lucky you! Looks awesome!
It certainly was an adventure..
This monastery looks amazing with lots of history! Thanks for sharing.
